Fundraiser on Sept. 13
The Dayton Mediation Center will host the third annual Eat, Create, and Meditate fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 13, at the Brightside Music & Event Venue, 905 E. Third St., from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The event supports the Peer Mediation Program for women of the Dayton Correctional Institution, but it is much more than a fundraiser. Guests will enjoy a fun evening of great food provided by Brock Masterson’s Catering & Events, yoga led by Leona Banks and Kay Edwards (Dayton International Peace Museum), and art creation with Amanda Grieve of the Dayton Society of Artists and Joshua Stucky of Square One Salons.
Individual tickets are available for $45 to $90 and may be purchased at daytonmediationcenter. org/fundraiser; ticket purchases and contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
The Dayton Correctional Institution (DCI) Women’s Peer Mediation Program is the first of its kind in the region and is designed to help reduce conflict in a prison setting. The program exposes women to conflict management skills with more than 60 hours of ongoing training to help learn effective ways to communicate during conflict. The training also will help women have new tools they can use to engage with others, including their families, as they rebuild their lives and return to their communities.
Proceeds from past Eat, Create, Meditate events have provided training materials for peer mediators, on-site program staff, and creation of a short film (see daytonmediationcenter.org/prisonpeermediation). Sponsorship opportunities are still available; for more information visit daytonmediationcenter.org/fundraiser.
