An Old Navy store will open next month at Austin Landing, filling a new space built specifically for the store.

The apparel and accessories retailer for men, women and children will have its grand opening with face painting and a DJ on Aug. 17. It will also have a soft opening at 6 p.m. Aug. 14, said Andrea Overfield, general manager of the store.

“We do kind of take over buildings, so this is exciting to have a building that we’re building from the ground up,” Overfield said. “It’s super exciting to be in that location. It’s going to be our newest model, more up-to-date.”

The Dayton Daily News first reported the store would open in February when the company filed building permits for 10361 Innovation Drive near Field & Stream.

The store is still hiring a few more positions but already has about 50 employees, some of whom transferred from the Dayton Mall store that closed at the end of January. There is also a location at The Greene and several in the Cincinnati area.

The Room Place will open later this year in the Dayton Mall location.

Though it will be slightly smaller than other area Old Navy stores, Overfield said the Austin Landing location will be up-to-date with Old Navy’s interactive picnic tables with crayons, a balloon tree, hopscotch and a bouncy ball machine.

It will also follow the boutique-style setup of newer Old Navy locations, she said.

“We have fun fashion at a value for the whole family. We start with newborns and go up to adults,” Overfield said.
