Golden Nugget building still for sale a year later
The Golden Nugget Pancake House is still operating out of its iconic Dixie Drive building while looking for the right buyer a year after it was posted for sale
The Dayton Daily News reported the Golden Nugget’s popular restaurant building was listed for sale at 2932 S. Dixie Drive Aug. 3 last year. The family at the time said it planned to downsize for family and health reasons.
That plan is still the same, co-owner and Thomas family member Stacey Frangomichalos told the Dayton Daily News. She’s still waiting for someone to buy the building. Once the sale is underway, the company will start looking for a smaller location to move the popular business.
The Golden Nugget lot is almost 2 acres and the building is 7,000 square feet. It was originally listed at $2.9 million, but the listing has been removed because Golden Nugget is switching Realtors since the time frame with the former real estate agent ended, Frangomichalos said.
The name and recipes are not included in the sale.
The building location was originally constructed in the 1960s but was entirely rebuilt in 2007 after a fire caused by an electrical problem damaged it.
Original owner Steve Thomas and his wife, Bessie, opened the first Golden Nugget off North Main Street in downtown Dayton, then moved the restaurant to its South Dixie Highway location. The family opened its second restaurant at North Keowee Street and Stanley Avenue in 1975.
The Dayton Daily News reported in 2007 that illness forced the owners of the Golden Nugget Pancake House to close a second location at 1510 N. Keowee St.
