The city TROTWOOD — has released details of its rescheduled Fourth of July fireworks celebration that now will be part of Trotwood’s Family Reunion Weekend in September.

The fireworks were postponed in July because the city wanted to focus on tornado recovery efforts.

The Family Reunion Weekend is Trotwood’s community festival with three days of events from Sept. 27-29.

“The Family Reunion Weekend does not only showcase what Trotwood has to offer, but also connects members of the community together for shared experiences, no matter what their background, gender or age,” said Ciara Lewis, parks and recreation program coordinator.

The event includes food and merchandise vendors from around the community.

“I am expecting a lot of participation from organizations that the city has connected with during the tornado relief efforts,” Lewis said.

The fireworks are scheduled for Sept. 27 at the Trotwood Community and Cultural Arts Center located on Lake Center Drive. The event includes music and food, starting at 8:30 p.m. and fireworks scheduled for 10 p.m.

The festival will have a family-friendly parade at 10 a.m. Sept. 28. The parade will begin at the Foodtown Shopping Center on Main Street, travel west on Main to Broadway Boulevard and south on Broadway to Madison Park.

The parade will include Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald as the grand marshal, first responder vehicles from police, fire and rescue, public works equipment and vehicles, local celebrities, elected officials, decorated vehicles, bicycles, classic cars and music.

The Saturday portion of the weekend will include the ninth annual Trotwood-Wolfcreek Smoke, Sizzle and Sounds BBQ contest from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Cash prizes will be provided for the top winners in chicken and pork ribs. The cash prizes include $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $175 for third place.

All day on Saturday, there will be live music vendors, food trucks and inflatables.

Interfaith music will be provided on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. that features churches throughout the community.

The vendors and food trucks will be finalized closer to the event.

Those who are interested in participating in the Family Reunion Weekend can contact Lewis at 937-8547228 or clewis@trotwood. org. She can also give information about the weekend.
