Access to Justice Awards
Nominations are being accepted for the 2019 Access to Justice Awards. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, July 31.
Individuals, organizations and businesses will be recognized for providing extraordinary assistance to low-income and disadvantaged people in our community by helping them to gain access to justice and secure stability in their lives.
Attorneys and community members will be selected for the following: the Lloyd O’Hara Public Interest Law Award, which recognizes attorneys; the Patricia Rousseau Community Advocacy Award for activism; and the Community Impact Award for longterm improvements for low-income area residents. (All nominees must provide services in the Miami Valley and may not be employed by the presenting organizations.)
The awards will be presented at the Access to Justice Awards Celebration that is scheduled Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Sinclair Community College Conference Center.
The event is organized by the nonprofit law firms Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), and partner the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project, Inc. (GDVLP). ABLE, LAWO and the GDVLP provide free legal services to low-income individuals and families facing damages due to the Memorial Day tornadoes, housing, domestic violence, elder abuse, disability, public benefits, consumer and education issues, and immigration and refugee concerns.
