Judge tells man who threw iguana to not brag about incident

— A 49-yearPAINESVILLE old man who pleaded guilty Thursday to throwing an iguana in a Perkins Restau- rant was ordered to not go and brag about the incident, Painesville Municipal Clerk of Court Nick Cindric told cleveland.com.

Judge Michael A. Cicconetti sentenced Arnold Teeter Thursday to 90 days in jail and suspended 77 of those days. The judge also gave him 13 days credit for the time he already served in jail. In the end, he will not serve any jail time, unless he breaks the law sometime during his five years of probation, Cindric said.

The judge also entered a handful of other stipulations. Tetters is not allowed to publicize about what he did or why he did it. He’s not allowed to seek media attention about the case and he can’t brag about what happened.

He’s also required to pay restitution to the Lake Humane Society, which cared for the injured lizard after the incident.

“The judge was pretty clear on this,” Cindric said. “He also cannot own any ani- mals for five years.”

Teeter pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty, resisting arrest and disor- derly conduct for the April 14 incident where he pulled the iguana, named Copper, from beneath his shirt and threw it at a Perkins Restau- rant manager. The incident happened at the restaurant on Mentor Avenue near Nelson Street.

Teeter swung Copper above his head by her tail and threw her, police said.

He left the restaurant and was found a short time later near the restaurant.

Copper had escaped from the home of her previous homeowner in July 2018 before Teeter found her, police said previously. She has since been reunited with her original owner after getting surgery because she lost part of her tail in the Perkins incident.
