Man killed in egg farm accident ID’d

Authoritie­s have identified the worker who was killed in a farming accident last week at a Union County egg operation as a 24-year-old Mexican national.

The body of Josue Adan Mezhua Hernandez of Zongolica, Mexico, flew back to his home country Wednesday for funeral services.

Last Thursday, deputy sheriffs responded to the 20000 block of Powder Lick Road in York Township just after 1:30 p.m. after Hernandez fell off a motorized ladder about 15 feet above a concrete surface. A preliminar­y investigat­ion found that he was repairing a manure-transport belt in a barn and was not wearing a safety harness.

Hernandez, a four-year employee of New Day Farms, was pronounced dead at the scene from a skull fracture and brain injury. Union County Coroner Dr. David Applegate said he was told that Hernandez was not in the U.S. legally and that his aunt, who also works in the area, helped to identify him.New Day Farms released a statement of condolence­s, saying the safety of its employees is its highest priority. Mark Puckett says he only noticed Hale because of Taco, who stayed on the wall until someone showed up.

Hale was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was still recovering Wednesday from pelvic and wrist injuries. Hale was reunited with Taco in the hospital Wednesday and the two had an emotional reunion. shatter a cinderbloc­k while trying to break the glass door to gain entry into the store.

Police say he still managed to get inside, then clumsily made his way around the store, falling several times while trying to reach higher items on shelves. Despite all of bloopers, the suspect still escaped and remains at-large.
