Readers give thoughts on UD flag vandalism

We reported last week that the University of Dayton “is asking for students to speak out about ‘biased-related incidents’ after a pride flag was pulled from the university’s LGBTQ+ house and thrown in the trash.” The story drew nearly 400 comments on our

Christopher Marshall: And this is “newsworthy”? No one would care if it were an American or Confederate, so what makes LGBTQ special?

Faye Winkler: Christopher Marshall — oh, but listen to the fascists cry if a Confederate flag was torn down! Remember all those Confederate statues and how the right-wingers cried and went nuts!

William Black: I don’t get why people gotta advertise what they support. Quietly living a happy life is much more effective than badgering others to accept it.

Joanne Nelson: Good. Well done.

Dawn Fitzgerald: Thank you! Keep that sex crap in their bedroom, not on our kids’ front doors!!!

Pat Richards: You do know college-aged people aren’t kids, right?

Molly Cochran Moore: Dawn Fitzgerald, so you approve of theft and vandalism of other’s property? Just like Jesus would want.

Phil Wassil: Just because the New Age Movement and the New World Order folks have gotten to the point that they can put forth things like alternative lifestyles are good and religion is bad and make it “appear” that is what the majority think, they are way off base. A lot of gullible people have fallen for it but in reality it’s only a small percentage of the population that have become their tools. When you control the media and Sillywood you can create a lot of things.

Debbie Horn Wiggans: Phil Wassil, Amen.

CJ Adams: Because religious people are so peaceful throughout the world.

Chrissy Sparks: There is a whole bunch of hate up in here. Anyone who thinks this is “good” or “funny” are the same people who don’t seem to understand that bigotry still exists and that this is an example of it. I think you all need to learn to love one another.

Denver Johnson: Chrissy Sparks, I bet if it was the American flag, you wouldn’t say anything.

Danielle Marquardt: Chrissy Sparks, you keep fighting the good fight, girl! Love will prevail. Hate will not win.

Connie McCullough: Chrissy Sparks, a lot of us try. Every day. But it gets tiresome when all we hear is white supremacy, racism, hate towards whites and Christians. We have become the punching bag. You want equality, but not willing to say, We don’t need special recognition, special laws, special “flags.” Whites have no special flag. Stars and stripes, MIA, POW. That’s it. It stands for America, USA, Americans. Confederate flag, that was a flag for the war. Not a prejudice one. But we can make anything racist. Bigotry is aimed at anyone who don’t believe the way “the chosen” believe.

Chrissy Sparks: Connie McCullough, yes but what real rights have whites and Christians had to fight for in our recent history? Other than reproductive rights for women, I can’t think of any. It is a hateful world we live in, and we have a president who doesn’t only tolerate it, he welcomes and encourages it! Some days I have trouble getting out of bed thinking about all of the hate and violence in this country.

Jamie Renner: Haters gonna hate, I guess. I’m glad my God is a god of love, not hate. I mean, if it is above Jesus’ pay grade to judge, it absolutely is above mine! (ref. John 3:17 ... yes 17. Don’t stop at 16)

Zac Bailey: Y’all are just saying “what about the American flag, what about the confederate flag” as an excuse to be bigots. It’s also moronic logic.
