School board shuffle
The Mason City Schools Board of Education reorganized on Jan. 14, with several members appointed to new positions.
Board members appointed Charles Galvin, who was first elected in 2017, as the new board president. Galvin is an attorney at Frost Brown Todd.
Board member Connie Yingling was appointed vice president for 2020. Yingling is currently serving her 20th year on the Mason City Schools Board of Education, having been appointed in 1999 and subsequently elected to six full terms.
Kevin Wise was appointed as the legislative liaison to the Ohio School Boards Association and Matt Steele was appointed as the student achievement liaison to the Ohio School Boards Association.
Also, the Early Childhood Center’s 2020-2021 kindergarten registration is underway. The pre-registration meeting for Kindergarten 2020-2021 will be held on Feb.19 at the Mason Early Childhood Center located at 4631 Hickory Woods Drive. Packet sign out will be from 6-6:45 p.m. followed by a general meeting from 6:457:30 p.m. This meeting is for parents only due to limited seating. Those unable to attend should visit the early childhood center or Central Registrar Office at 211 N. East St. after Feb 19 for a registration packet.
Registration for kindergarten will be held in the school gym Tuesday, March 10, 6 - 8 p.m. and Monday, March 16, 6 - 8 p.m.
Only parents who register their child at the March 10 or March 16 meeting will be able to preference their child’s kindergarten teacher.
At this time, completed packets are to be returned along with the following required documents:
· Proof of residency (lease, deed, settlement statement): If building a new home, or purchase is pending, form MCS308 is also required.
· Child’s original birth certificate (with raised seal) or active passport
· Parent/Guardian driver’s license or state issued ID card · Immunization Record · Court Documents (if applicable), i.e. Custody, Shared parenting
