5th teen arrested in fatal Warren County shooting

A fifth suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Centervill­e man that allegedly happened during a botched robbery outside a Warren County home in December.

Jackson Paul Pelphrey, 16, of Centervill­e, has been charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in the Dec. 13 killing of Mason N. Trudics, 18, of Centervill­e, according to a news release from the Warren County Sheriff ’s Office.

Pelphrey is being held in the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the release. Pelphrey joins three other juveniles charged in the case and held in the detention center in Lebanon.

Already Dakota Cox, 18, of Washington Twp. in Montgomery County, has been indicted on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and possession of criminal tools in connection with the case.

He could face 15 years to life in prison if convicted on the murder charge, with an additional prison term if convicted on the other charges.

Logan Dean and Jacob Hicks, both 16, of Washington Twp., and Kayla Carmack, 17, of Turtlecree­k Twp. in Warren County, also are charged in the fatal shooting outside Carmack’s home on Oregonia Road, east of Lebanon.

Authoritie­s were called to the scene when Carmack’s mother dialed 911 for help in dealing with Dean pleading for help and Trudics fatally wounded outside the Carmack home.

Dean, Hicks and Carmack are scheduled to return to juvenile court next week.
