The city of Kettering is switching trash haulers for residents later this year.

Kettering approved a five-year contract with Rumpke Waste & Recycling for residential refuse and recycling services that will begin July 1.

The new contract with Rumpke will include refuse, trash and recycling services for one, two and three residential units in the city of Kettering.

The change will require zero preparation from Kettering residents, according to city spokeswoman Mary Azbill.

She noted that in July, residents will automatically be enrolled with Rumpke. The company will deliver new recycling and trash carts that are the same size as residents’ current receptacles.

Waste Management will, in turn, remove their recycling and trash carts. Refuse and recycling collection days will remain the same; however, pickup times may change.

“We are excited to work with Rumpke. Providing quality, cost-effective service to our residents is our ultimate goal and Rumpke understands our mission,” said Assistant City Manager Steve Bergstresser. “We have been developing the transition plan with care to ensure our residents enjoy a smooth changeover. We will keep our residents updated throughout the process.”

Region Vice President Jake Rumpke said the company is equipped with new trucks and plenty of staff to meet Kettering’s needs.

Weekly refuse and recycling collection service levels will remain

the same including: regular curbside automated service, subscription house-side service and income-eligible senior rate service.

“Our family-owned company appreciates the opportunity to provide excellent service for Kettering,” said Jake Rumpke, region vice president. “We are also grateful for the assistance of Kettering officials. Together, we are working to ensure a seamless transition for residents. We look forward to serving this community for years to come.”
