XFL Football, 2 PM on Ch. 22 and Ch. 9: Coach June Jones and his Houston Roughnecks visit the Tampa Bay Vipers as Week 3 of the XFL’s inaugural season gets under way. Jones is one of the more experienced coaches in the upstart league, with NFL, college and CFL experience. His quarterback is Connor Cook, the former Michigan State standout who spent time with the Oakland Raiders in the NFL. The Vipers are coached by Marc Trestman who also has a long and varied resume.
Movie: Annabelle Comes Home, 8:10 PM on HBO; 1:05 AM on HBO: Gary Dauberman co-wrote and made his directorial debut with this 2019 sequel to two previous “Annabelle” thrillers, which also is the seventh entry in the Conjuring Universe franchise. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who retrieve the cursed titular doll from its current owners after several violent incidents. Terror ensues after a visitor inadvertently leaves unlocked a special “sacred” glass case containing Annabelle’s evil. McKenna Grace and Madison Iseman also star.
Seven Worlds, One Planet, 9 PM on AMC and BBCA and IFC and SUN; 12:30 AM on BBCA: The new episode “Antarctica” takes the show’s crew to Earth’s coldest, windiest and least hospitable continent, where survival for penguin chicks means running a predator gauntlet of both hungry orca and leopard seals. Among the other highlights, the BBC cinematographers capture unprecedented footage of great whales in one of the world’s most spectacular feeding spectacles, while far below, brilliantly colorful starfish and gigantic worms thrive on the seabed.
