Huber Heights looks to fill city council vacancy

Huber Heights is seeking a replacement for former councilman Seth Morgan, who resigned his position last week.

City council announced Tuesday they are soliciting for applications for a replacement. Applications are due by Feb. 28 to Anthony Rodgers, clerk of council.

Once city council knows how many applicants there are, they will set a special work session to publicly interview candidates.

Residents of Ward 3 also can submit questions for city council candidates to Rodgers.

To apply for the open seat, applicants must have lived in Huber Heights and Ward 3 for at least one year before being appointed. Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to Rodgers no later than 5 p.m. on Feb. 28.

Cover letters and resumes can be dropped off at city hall at 6131 Taylorsville Rd. or mailed in, faxed or emailed to Rodgers.

Morgan’s resignation was effective on Feb. 15. City council has

until March 15 to replace him.

The city’s charter says that if council fails to fill the vacancy then the mayor must appoint someone in eight days.

Morgan said he resigned his seat because he hopes to move outside of Huber Heights.

Morgan’s residency had been called into question by another member of council, Glenn Otto.

He and his three children had been living with his parents in Beavercreek because he and his wife were going through a divorce. Huber Heights Legal Counsel Gerald McDonald said if Morgan planned to return to Ward 3 in Huber Heights, temporarily staying with his parents was not an issue, according to public records.

Otto lodged a complaint against the mayor for knowing about Morgan’s living situation and not removing him from council.

An independent investigation by vice mayor Nancy Byrge found no wrongdoing.
