Dayton police are seeking a second person in the shooting death of a Dayton Dunbar student, and the coach of the teen’s club track team says his death is pulling people together.

Dayton police announced they are seeking 18-year-old Malakhy McCain in connection to the death of Qua’lek Shelton. Qua’lek and another teen were shot Feb. 16 during a drive-by in the 2400 block of Catalpa Drive.

Qua’lek died a few days later. An updated condition on the 16-yearold wasn’t available this week, but was listed in “good” condition last week.

Dayton Police said anyone with information about McCain’s whereabouts is asked to call the police.

Lt. Jason Hall said police arrested an 18-year-old suspect. Jackeem Collins was booked into jail Wednesday on a charge of murder.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said they approved charges Friday morning. Collins

is facing two counts of murder, six counts of felonious assaults and one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premise. He has not entered a plea, according to the prosecutor’s office.

He is due back in court on Tuesday, according to online records.

Hall said Collins was in a car during the shooting. He said others also could be charged.

”I can say there were other people, we are working with the prosecutor’s office to determine what other charges,” Hall said.

The Dayton’s Wolverine track club, who Qua’lek ran with for several years, said his team is coming together to support each other and Qua’lek’s family.

“It’s like a family,” Keith Ways said. “We are just trying to comfort and be there for the Shelton family. He was part of our family and we need to be there for his family.”

He said the Shelton family is “holding up as well as you can expect.”
