City seeks seasonal staff, volunteers
Centerville prides itself on innovation, and we are always looking for ways to do our work in more efficient ways. That is why we are in the midst of organizing the first job fair in many years.
Finding seasonal help is a challenge for most municipalities, and we want to make it as easy as possible to land the best workers. We also hope to make the process as seamless as possible for all applicants.
This job fair is a result of LEAN process training, which stresses empowering all employees to participate in team-based problem solving, using good data to analyze and solve complex problems and relentlessly focusing on the customer. Maximum Potential, a Centerville-based consulting firm, led a workshop for 25 city employees in 2019 and we are putting that effort to work.
Instead of going through a lengthy process involving several back-and-forth exchanges with potential hires, we are going to get as much as possible done during the threehour fair on Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m.-noon at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace.
Many of the seasonal positions are for Yankee Trace, our 27-hole championship golf course and clubhouse. What truly distinguishes Yankee
Trace is a shared commitment from staff and volunteers to present immaculate golf course conditions and provide exceptional customer service for our guests.
Yankee Trace is looking for seasonal workers in golf course preparation, golf course concessions, bartending, banquet serving, restaurant hosting, the Golf Shop and outside services involving our state-of-the-art golf carts.
Centerville Public Works and
Benham’s Grove — our community gathering space on North Main Street — are also looking for seasonal help.
We also have a handful of city internships to offer as well, including spots in engineering and planning.
Anyone interested in applying should bring a valid U.S. ID and a completed application. You can find one at centervilleohio.gov. We will also have plenty on hand that morning. Applicants under 18 should be accompanied by an adult. All applicants will have to take a drug test and submit to a background check.
And finally, we are also always hunting for great volunteers as candidates for our many boards and commissions, our CIVIC program at the municipal building, The Golf Club at Yankee Trace and the Centerville Police Department. You do not have to live in Centerville to volunteer. Please come on Saturday, March 28, and learn more about opportunities to give back.
If you are interested but you cannot attend the job fair, give us a call at 937-433-7151 or email personnel@centervilleohio.gov.
Having the opportunity to be of service to Centerville is an honor and privilege for all of us who have or are now doing so; whether as an elected official, city staff or city volunteer. Please join us in finding candidates who are willing to volunteer, work hard and enjoy a great summer with us.
