Like all Branches of the Dayton Metro Library system, the new West Branch Library will feature original, permanent art installations inspired by pieces in the Dayton Art Institute’s collection.

Patrons and neighbors of the current Madden Hills and Westwood Branch Libraries are invited to vote, now through April 30, for the DAI pieces they would like to see re-interpreted for their new Library.

Votes may be cast in person at the two Branch Libraries, or online at DaytonMetroLibrary.org.

There are six options from which to choose, all selected for their potential relevance to the Library. Images of each piece, along with its rationale for inclusion, can be found at DaytonMetroLibrary.org and at the Madden Hills and Westwood Branches.

After two pieces have been chosen, artist proposals will be requested.

The options are:

■ Canata, by Norman Lewis (1948)

■ Relief Fragment of Noble Couple, Egyptian (c.1335-1162 BCE)

■ Uncarved Block IX: Pearl, by Jon Barlow Hudson (1986)

■ Mask (Nwantantay), Bwa people, Burkina Faso (20th Century)

■ Telestar Sphere, by David Huchthausen (2006)

■ Truganini of Tasmania, by Beatrice Riese (1990)

The ReImagining Works partnership between the Dayton Art Institute and the Dayton Metro Library is made possible by an anonymous bequest to enhance all of the new and newly-renovated Dayton Metro Libraries.

“ReImagining Works brings beautiful new artwork into each Library,” said Jayne Klose, Community Engagement Manager. “It’s exciting to get the public involved, so that the artwork reflects the unique characteristics of each Library and community.”

The new West Branch Library will be a consolidation of the current Madden Hills and Westwood Branches, and will be located at Rt. 35 and Abbey Avenue.

The architects are LWC, Inc.; Shook Construction is the construction manager.

Construction of the West Branch is expected to begin in the fall and take about a year to complete.

Dayton Metro Library’s system-wide facilities improvement project was made possible by voter support of a $187 million bond issue in 2012.
