Dayton Realtors

-

Another coronavirus article? Well, yes and no. I’m not going to tell you how to avoid crowds or wash your hands – you’ve most likely heard that from every other source.

There are some things Realtors are doing in this community to make things better and safer for area residents, so I’m here to highlight those.

With a near-shutdown of some services, restaurants, schools and other gathering places, we Realtors recognize the hardship many people will go through in the coming weeks. Living paycheck-to-paycheck is challenging enough without adding a quarantine into the mix.

There are children who rely on school breakfasts and lunches as the main sources of nutrition for the day, and some districts are not prepared yet to tackle this problem.

Likewise, there are many adults who may struggle to buy food because they don’t have savings in place.

Realtors want to help, and they’re good at it. They rallied during last year’s tornadoes and distributed more than $350,000 in aid to victims; they donate their time to rehab homes, prepare care packages for troops, collect gift cards for women affected by domestic violence, and much, much more.

During this time of uncertainty for many, Realtors are being encouraged to drop off non-perishable food to the Dayton Realtors office at 1515 S. Main St. in Dayton (right next to the Dayton Daily News). The collected food will then be distributed to local food banks.

We will gladly accept non-perishable donations from the public as well.

While we know that the stock at groceries is currently low and people want to hold onto food in case of extended stays at home, if you have any extra items that could help feed another family, please consider stopping at the office (address is above) and dropping off an item or two.

In keeping with the new social distance guidelines, you don’t even need to interact with the office staff.

Simply open the designated administration door and place your goods into one of the pink Rubbermaid containers.

If you are not able to drop items off, you may instead make a small donation to our Dayton Realtors Foundation and we’ll apply those funds toward this effort.

In addition to these efforts, Realtors are also practicing other ways to keep the community and themselves safe while continuing to conduct business.

Don’t be put off if a Realtor asks to meet you at a property rather than drive you to the location. T

hey may also propose alternative ways for viewing a property, such as video tours and other methods to virtually tour a home.

If the property is shown in person, be ready to disinfect your hands upon entering the home, limit your contact with surfaces in the home, and use hand sanitizer when you leave the property.

Realtors want everyone to be safe and healthy.

Practicing these responsible actions can help limit exposure for yourself and others.

This is a very uncertain time, but we can all still have a positive home selling or shopping experience.

Let’s all work together to be caring and charitable toward our neighbors and the community.
