Police probe second fatal shooting in 4 days
Dayton police are investigating the city’s second fatal shooting in four days and its third overall shooting in that time span.
Police were called at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday to West Hudson Avenue, where they found 22-year-old Marcheal Postell with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Dayton police said they are looking for leads in the case.
“Homicide detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Marcheal Postell,” police said in a statement. “We encourage anyone with information regarding this homicide to contact the Dayton Police Department at 937333-COPS, or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 937-222STOP.”
A police K-9 team tried to track the shooter or shooters, but the track ended at a Marathon gas station nearby, the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center said.
The shooting is the second homicide being investigated by Dayton authorities. On Saturday, Dayton police say Gregory Blanton shot and killed his child’s mother on Hillpoint Lane. Authorities say the 4-year-old child was nearby when the mother was slain.
Also, the most recent shooting took place within 24 hours from another shooting in the city. On Monday evening, police were called around 8:20 p.m. to the 1600 block of Darst Avenue for a man who was shot multiple times. That victim’s condition also was not available.
In that shooting, police identified 27-year-old Shaquille Shackelford as a person of interest and issued a public plea for information on Shackelford’s whereabouts. As of late Tuesday night, he was not listed on the Montgomery County jail roster.
There are no indications that any of the shootings are connected.
