Funeral services set for former Kettering leader
Former Kettering Law Director and City Councilman John Adams was a U.S. Army veteran who spent years as a legal adviser for Holiday at Home. He died June 1 at age 87.
Services are scheduled for today for the Toledo native, who spent 26 years as Kettering’s law director before serving two terms on the city council.
Adams served in the U.S. Army Infantry and as a legal officer during the Korean War, according to his obituary. He traveled to all 50 U.S. states and other countries in Africa and Europe.
He earned is law degree from the University of Toledo. Adams was Kettering’s law director from 1963 to 1989 and later spent two terms on city council.
He was a member of a number of legal organizations and was a former president of the Ohio Municipal Attorney’s Association, according to his obituary.
Adams was also a director and legal adviser for various charitable foundations, including Latch Key Children and Holiday at Home, the annual Kettering Labor Day weekend festival that began in the late 1950s.
He was a member of St Francis of Assisi Parish in Centerville and a former member of St. Charles Parish in Kettering, where he served as an usher for 32 years.
Adams is survived by his wife of 33 years, Yvette (Sawaya, Fritz) Adams; eight children and step-children; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio 45440.
Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St.
