Barry Brewer: Chicago,
I’m Home, 9 PM on Ch. 26: Comic Barry Brewer wrote, directed and co-produced this new hour of stand-up comedy, recorded in front of two sold-out crowds at the Studebaker Theater in his hometown of Chicago. Brewer’s set is, in some respects, a culmination of his 15 years as a comic, drawn on real-life experiences and delivered in a winning, self-effacing style. For those watching with younger family members, it’s also worth noting that Brewer “works clean,” avoiding rough language and explicit material.
Lost on Everest, 9 PM on NGEO; 12:03 AM on NGEO: Joined by a world-class team of veteran professional climbers, journalist and adventurer Mark Synnott and National Geographic photographer Renan Ozturk embark on a challenging quest to answer a puzzling mystery in exploration: What happened to the celebrated explorers Andrew “Sandy” Irvine and George Leigh Mallory, who disappeared during a 1924 attempt on the first summit of Mount Everest? Mallory’s body was found in 1999, but Irvine’s remains have not been recovered. The production team faces major hazards of their own during this mission.

HBO: David France’s 2020 documentary focuses on the shocking anti-gay purges in Russia during the late 2010s decade, with France interviewing several LGBT refugees about their harrowing experiences. Given the need to protect the interviewees and shield their identities, the filmmaker took the unorthodox approach of using advanced facial replacement techniques from visual effects technology so audience members could see different yet recognizably human faces displaying visceral emotions, without revealing their real-life likenesses.
