Summer fun still on the agenda

Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts up and running in Kettering.

-

We’re so excited to be back up and running here at Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts. Although our summer looks different, we’re still committed to offering fun and enriching opportunities for all ages.

Our number-one priority? Safety first! In addition to capacity limits to ensure safe social distancing, we are thoroughly cleaning our facilities throughout the day.

We’re also limiting class sizes — yes, classes are starting again! — and setting up programs to allow for more space between participants. For select programs, we’ve also developed a reservation system to help everyone stay safe.

And of course, we’ve stocked plenty of hand sanitizer in every facility, which all are welcome and encouraged to use.

We’re glad everyone is as eager as we are to return to PRCA facilities and programs. We appreciate your help in keeping our community safe by staying home when you’re sick, following our directional signage, washing your hands and wearing a mask!

You can also limit in-person contact by calling us at 937-2962587 or by visiting us on the web at www.playkettering.org to enroll in programs.

And we hope you will. Family programs like Puzzle-palooza, sports programs and leagues, fitness classes, and art, recreation and nature opportunities for youth and adults are ready and waiting for you!

In addition to the return of programs, July is also an important time for PRCA because it’s National Parks & Recreation Month. This year’s theme, courtesy of the National Recreation and Park Association, is “We Are Parks & Recreation.”

We’re proud of our amazing PlayKettering team and our Kettering community members, and we’ll be featuring them on our PlayKettering social media channels throughout July. Follow us to join the (virtual) party, and get in touch soon to join the party at our reopened facilities.

Stay safe, stay well and we can’t wait to see you soon!

Kettering Connection reopens for assistance

COVID19 has caused everyone to find a new normal. Unfortunately,

for some, that requires many of the things we typically do in person to be moved into the digital realm. We realize this is difficult for those who are not comfortable using a computer and, of course, for those without one to use. That is where the Kettering Connection at Town and Country is able to help.

The Kettering Connection and the Senior Service Coordinator are available to assist with online applications, virtual meetings and online communications. COVID precautions will be maintained and personal protective equipment will be available. The Senior Service Coordinator is also available for home visits to help those unable to leave their homes.

The Kettering Connection is in Town and Country Shopping Center near Figlio’s restaurant. The Connection is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday for walk-in customers from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

You can also see the Senior Service Coordinator outside of the walk-in hours by appointment. For more information, contact the Service Coordinator at 937296-3356 or by email at vickie. carraher@ketteringoh.org.

Thank you, Kettering volunteers!

Not even a pandemic can stop the gratitude Kettering has for its volunteers. The Kettering Volunteer Advisory Council invited all volunteers to a Drive-Thru Appreciation event June 25 in the parking lot at Fairmont High School.

Ice cream bars and homemade masks were given to volunteers by Mayor Patterson, members of City Council and staff as a small token of thanks for everything they do to make Kettering the place people love to call home.

As with most Kettering events, this activity could not have taken place without the help of our volunteers! Nine volunteers donated sewing skills and hundreds of hours to create over 700 facial coverings!

Even in times when volunteer opportunities are somewhat limited, Kettering volunteers always find a way to give back — it’s just what they do! The event served as an excellent way to safely meet and greet those who have given so much to this city!

We look forward to being together again!
