The Vandalia-Butler City School District is using the summer break to make some much-needed enhancements to its enrollment process.

For the past several months, the enrollment office has been working toward upgrading procedures, which will make it easier for families to enroll their students in the district. The process is for new students enrolling in kindergarten through the 12th grade.

Currently the process includes filling out a paper packet that initially had to be picked up at the Board of Education building, Central Office, or printed online, and then scheduling an appointment with the enrollment registrar to complete the process.

The new method just recently went live. Now, to enroll new students, parents can complete all the initial paperwork online before coming in to meet with the registrar. The online portion of the process is expected only to take 20-30 minutes to complete.

Once the online forms are complete, someone from the enrollment office will call and set up an appointment for completion. This appointment gives parents a designated time to bring in all required documents, including certified birth certificate, proof of residency, copy of driver’s license or photo ID, immunization records, any applicable court documents and any 504 plan/ gifted documents the child may have.

The updated platform will also benefit all of the 2020-21 returning students and families. Once the parent has an account set up, he or she will log in to their family account each year.

The account is used to verify data, including current phone numbers and other contact information. However, for families who have recently moved, address changes will continue to be completed at the central office by bringing in proper proof of residency. Any custody changes need to be updated in person, as well.

The preschool enrollment process is not changing at this time. Those interested in preschool should call the preschool office at 937-415-6387. Preschool enrollment for the 2020-21 school year has already begun, and there are only a limited number of openings each year. However, if interested, you are encouraged to call and ask about our waiting list. Preschool is available for children who or will be 3 or 4 years old by Aug. 1, 2020.

The district hopes this change will accommodate our current families and make things a little easier for those joining the Aviator community. To access the new portal or for information on understanding residency requirements, please visit www.vbcsd.com.

The Vandalia-Butler Central Office is located at 500 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia, OH 45377, and the office is currently open Monday through Friday from 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3 p.m. For direct enrollment questions, please call 937-415-6410. Due to extra safety concerns, the district is asking only one parent or guardian to attend the appointment for completion. The district does practice social distancing, and although masks are not required, they are encouraged.
