City residents urged to recycle more and recycle right

-

Dayton’s curbside recycling program makes recycling easy, and it’s free.

The service is included at no additional charge with your waste collection, and you don’t to have to sort recyclable items — just toss them into the bin provided by the City of Dayton.

There’s one thing you can do to help ensure the success of Dayton’s recycling efforts: recycle right.

Several kinds of items often found in recycling bins that just don’t belong there. Including these can cause the cost of recycling to increase or even damage recycling center machinery. Here they are — the bad list: ■ Paper towels, paper napkins and tissues (clean or dirty)

■ Any paper or cardboard soiled by grease, food waste, cleaning fluids, oil, etc.

■ Plastic bags or packaging used for potato chips, tortilla chips, etc.

■ Styrofoam and foam packaging

■ Plastic toys, plastic products ■ Bottle tops or lids

■ Here’s what Dayton’s recycling program does accept:

■ Dry/clean paper and cardboard

■ Glass containers (remove lids)

■ Aluminum cans (remove lids)

■ Plastic bottles/containers (including soda and household bottles, rinsed).
