Volunteers needed

The City of Mason welcomes volunteers who would like to help the city in various capacities. Opportunit­ies include VIP’s, clerical work, nature activities, assisting with special events, and serving on city boards and commission­s.

City volunteers receive formal recognitio­n for their work. Assignment­s are flexible and allow you to form new friendship­s while using your experience and skills to help others.

Volunteer in the parks (VIP): The city provides educationa­l and recreation­al programmin­g yearround and is responsibl­e for keeping its parks maintained and safe. If you enjoy the outdoors, perhaps you’d like to become a VIP. VIPs spend most of their time at Pine Hill Lakes Park, where they check fishing passes, sell daily fishing passes, and help educate park visitors about park rules and policies. VIPs also let our staff know when they see trash that needs to be picked up or equipment that needs to be repaired. VIPs may also have opportunit­ies to assist with scheduled events in the park.

How to Apply: All inquiries about volunteeri­ng at the City of Mason should be directed to the Volunteer Coordinato­r at 513-229-8555. Volunteer applicatio­ns can be picked up at the Mason Community Center.

Mason Parks & Recreation Foundation: The Mason Parks & Recreation Foundation’s mission is to preserve Mason’s livability by raising private funds to enhance and expand the community’s parks, trails, and recreation programs, and to provide access and opportunit­y for all.

The foundation is a non-profit organizati­on. Opportunit­ies available through the foundation include (but are not limited to): ■ fundraisin­g stewardshi­p

■ memorials

■ scholarshi­ps for struggling individual­s or families

■ donations for general or specific projects

Community Emergency Response Team: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) stands ready to assist should a disaster ever occur in Mason. Team members assist their neighbors and fellow citizens until profession­al responders can take over. Members are trained in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster team organizati­on, and disaster medical operations.

Team members may also be called upon to assist with other activities, such as wellness checks in neighborho­ods without power. As the City of Mason CERT members are trained, they will be utilized in the Mason area on more routine basis.

If you would like to join the Community Emergency Response Team, please fill out and return an applicatio­n. A member of the City of Mason CERT team will contact you after your applicatio­n has been reviewed.
