Free public Wi-Fi arrives for use in Oregon District
In August 2019, Cincinnati Bell and the Oregon District Business Association announced that the telecommunications company and multiple partners would donate the upfront investments to deploy a “smart city” capacity in Dayton’s Oregon District.
Cincinnati Bell technicians then got to work on installing telecommunications fiber for free public Wi-Fi and other services, with a goal of enhancing business growth, livability and security.
The infrastructure supporting the services was provided by Cincinnati Bell at no cost to the community or the city.
Consumers and businesses in the area now can sign up for 1-GB of high-speed internet.
The free public Wi-Fi extends along East Fifth Street, from Wayne Avenue to Patterson Boulevard and is found by searching “Oregon District Free Wi-Fi” on any Wi-Fi-enabled device.
The effort also allows security cameras to be installed and located throughout the business district, alleyways, and various parking lots to support law enforcement safety initiatives.
“Cincinnati Bell and our partners are committed to supporting the city of Dayton and the Oregon District Business Association,” said Jason Praeter, president and general manager of Cincinnati Bell’s entertainment and communications unit. “As a lifelong Dayton resident currently residing in Bellbrook, I am especially proud that Cincinnati Bell is a part of this important project.”
“We are so incredibly grateful for Cincinnati Bell’s generosity,” said Kyle Babirad, president of the Oregon District Business Association.
“The importance of connectivity within the Oregon District cannot be overstated. Cincinnati Bell’s work with us improves our ability to connect with each other and with the broader Dayton community.”
