COVID-19 patient resolves child support back pay

-

A man contacted the Ombudsman about a letter he received informing him that a payment of over $6,000 was taken from his Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits in order to satisfy an arrearage tothe Child Support Enforcement Agency (CSEA).

Themanhad already contacted theCSEAandwas told that the payment had been posted, but his daughter and her mother do not yet have the money. The man is ill with COVID-19, and therefore his anxiety and stress level is very high.

The Ombudsman sent an inquiry to the Social Security Administration about the man's payment. The agency responded that a request to pay in an expeditious manner had been sent to the payment center and the staff person will let us knowwhen the payment has been released.

Within three days the Ombudsman received the news that $3,400 had been released to the mother and daughter, and $2,600 was returned totheman, because he was no longer in arrears with his child support. The manwas most pleased with the outcome.
