Have you heard about the Book Roost? It's a great place to purchase books inexpensively and help the needy in our community at the same time.

Located within the St. Vincent de Paul Community Store, the cozy minilibrary has recently added an “En Espanol” section for Spanish speakers and boasts a large section of Latin America, indigenous/American Indian, black/African American, and feminist sections to offer representation of all groups that make Dayton so special.

“People deserve good books at great prices, and the Book Roost fills that need,” says Paula Cosby, director of charitable enterprises. “We carry a wide variety of spiritual, fictional and non-fictional literature, a generous children's section, along with educational resources for parents and teachers, which is especially helpful for families engaged with online learning.”

Beyond books, the

Book Roost has a selection of DVDs, CDs, audio books, video games, vinyl records, and other media. “A new movie is just as expensive as a new book, but not at the Book Roost,” Cosby says. “At the Book Roost, we have thousands of gently-used books, movies, and music at prices that won't break the bank.”

All books at the Book Roost are first donated, then sold, while others are used to build and maintain libraries at the Gateway homeless shelters. Proceeds from sales at the Book Roost are used to support St. Vincent's veteran services, food pantry, furniture bank, and a variety of other services.

Interested in shopping for books? Prices range from 99 cents for children's books to $2.99 for hardbacks. The average price is $1.99 for paperbacks, videos, audio books.
