Summer comes to close, city projects ahead

-

Fall is here, which means cooler temperatures and back to school.

It’s also that time of year where many of our fun summer activities come to an end, and I’d like to thank the entire community for attending the events that were offered these last several months. The Kroger Aquatic Center wrapped up a great season despite operating with heavy safety restrictions due to COVID. Thank you for making this year another splashing success.

Our music series has given many families an opportunity to get out and listen to live music when most concerts were canceled. The movies series was also a success this year with the addition of the drive-in aspect, which I know many are hopeful will be brought back next season.

The Farmers Market at the Heights continues to build each week with a very strong attendance, and I have heard that there are many residents who attend every week. The blue City of Huber Heights reusable shopping bags make it super easy to carry all those wonderful items that the vendors have each week, too.

Projects throughout the city continue to make progress. There are a lot of businesses setting up here in our wonderful city, and even more soon. Our parks have had some major improvements and additions, such as the accessible structure at Belle Plain Park and the Kitty Hawk Dog Park. I encourage everyone to tune in to the City Council work sessions as

well as the City Council meetings through the “Watch Live” feature on the city website to find out more information

on projects that are current in progress as well as upcoming ones.

Finally, I’d like to remind everyone one last time that you have until Sept. 30 to complete your census. There are census takers going door-to-door, but you can still complete your census by calling 1-844-3302020 or go online at www. my2020census.gov.

Currently, Huber Heights has a 76.9% response rate, and there are still homes that are still unaccounted for, which means dollars that will not be allocated for our community. The Census is done every 10 years, and your 10 minutes to complete it is important because it helps to properly allocate federal and state funding appropriately for things like schools, infrastructure and hospitals.

Not only that but it also determines the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives. They are also used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.
