Huber Heights boards open to city residents

-

ManyHuberHeights residents aren’t aware of the many ways for them to become involved in their community.

City boards and commissions are established and appointed by the City Council. The role of boards and commissions is to provide advice and recommendations to the City Council with respect to the conduct and management of any property or facility or in connection with any public function of the city.

Currently, the city has the following boards and commissions established by the City Charter: ■ Board of Zoning

■ Ordinance ReviewCommission

■ Parks and Recreation Board ■ Personnel Appeals Board ■ Planning Commission These boards andcommissions are established by an action of City Council:

■ Arts andBeautificationCommission

■ CharterReviewCommission ■ Citizens Water and Sewer Advisory Board

■ Military and Veterans Commission

■ Property Maintenance Review Board

■ Public Records Commission ■ Tax Review Board

There is a formal application and interview process for each board or commission. An applicant is required to be a legal resident ofHuberHeights for at least one year and must be a registered voter at a city residence. A person may only serve on one board or commission at a time and all members of city boards and commissions serve in a volunteer capacity.

The city manager (or designee) is a non-voting ex-officio member of each city board or commission (except the Personnel Appeals Board).

When there is a vacancy for a board or commission, it is posted in the lobby entrance of CityHall and at www.hhoh.org.

Board or commission service notwhat you are looking for? The city hasmany events and projects throughout the year that can use volunteers.

This could be something as easy as a park cleanup, setting up or tearing down for the Farmers Market at The Heights, or assisting atwelcome booths for bigger events or festivals.

If you would be interested in volunteering in this way or have a unique idea please reach out to Sarah Williams, community engagement specialist, at swilliams@hhoh.org.
