Wright-Patterson to allow 50% of workers back

Wright-Patterson AirForce Base is ready to gradually welcome more workers on base, moving toward hosting half of the base’s typical dailyworking population, the base commander said.

“Iknowwe’re readytomake the transition fromhealth protection condition ‘Charlie’ to health protection condition ‘Bravo,’” said Col. Patrick Miller, commander of the 88th Air Base Wing and the installation commander at Wright-Patterson.

The change will be effective Monday. However, Miller took pains to emphasize that: “This is not a rush to having 50% of our workforce back.”

With up to half of the base’s typical workforce being permitted to return, that could eventually boost the daily presence on the base to 15,000 or soworkers.

Said Miller, “This is all driven by mission, and mission (commanders) will make the call.”

Springboro manufacturer expanding

A Springboro aerospace manufacturer is well on its way to expanding its home.

Springboro city planners have approved construction of a 14,000-square-foot building for Thaler Machine Co. on a site at the southeast corner of Edwards Drive and Tahlequah Trail.

The site is located just to the south of Thaler’s existing 69,472-square foot building on the north side of Edwards.

The site of the 14,000-squarefoot building is zoned “highway business district” in Springboro. Its warehouse will have double frontage on both Edwards Drive and Tahlequah Trail, with vehicular access fromEdwards to align with loading docks on the existing Thaler building to the north, as planning documents show.

City documents describe the precision machine shop as a “significant employer” in Springboro, whoworks with aerospace and military customers. The new buildingwill replace several storage trailers used to store bulk materials for customers.
