Gooddealoncruisers
Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchakwants to take advantage of an error in the county order for new cruisers.
Thedealer thatorderedthenew cruisers earlier this year ended up receiving 12 vehicles instead of the six included in this year’s budget, Duchak told county commissioners Sept. 15.
Instead of sending the vehicles back, he suggested the county go ahead and buy the six additional cruisers because he planned to
purchase six more in 2021.
The cost of the available vehicleswould be less than ones purchased in 2021 and production time for the cruisers is behind, Duchak said.
In the meantime, the department could see increased maintenance cost for existing cruisers because several now have 140,000to150,000milesonthem because they have been in use longer than anticipated.
To buy the six additional cruisers yet this year, the sheriffwould need to find another $200,000in his budget. The commissioners
also will look at their budget to see if any money could be used from contingency funds, said LeighWilliams, the commissioners’ clerk/administrator.
The six additional vehicles wouldn’t be in use until 2021 because of theneedtohave equipment placed in new vehicles.
Getting that work done also is takingmore time because of shutdowns for COVID-19, the commissioners were told.
