DeWine honors UD studentwho died
The governor of Ohio and people who knew a University of Dayton student who was killed from injuries he sustained over theweekend honored him Tuesday.
Police responded to a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Wayne Avenue, where Michael Currin, 19, was found in the street. Hewas taken to
MiamiValleyHospital, where he died Monday.
Currin played basketball at ArchbishopMoeller High School. Hewas a part of the Moeller 2018-19 state champion basketball team and a 2020graduate. Hewas afirstyear student studying business at UD.
Dayton Police and University of Dayton Public Safety released a joint press release Tuesday afternoon that said there is evidence to support that Currin left campus to pick up a food order.
“The cause of his injuries has not been confirmed at this time, and the investigation into his tragic death continues,” the release said.
The incident was originally being investigated as a hit-and-run crash, according to a crash report. However, police said Monday afternoon that Currinwas found with “critical injuries under unknown circumstances.”

TheMontgomery County Coroner’sOfficealso said the cause and manner of Currin’s death have not been determined.
Meanwhile, during his coronavirus news conference, OhioGov. MikeDewine took time to honor him. He wore aMoeller High School tie and said that he and his wife offer sympathies to the Currin family and all those who have lost a child.
Those who knew Currin also honored him.
“Mike you will bemissed, it was (an) honor to have you as a teammate, friend and brother,” MilesMcBride, a West Virginia basketball player and former teammate of Currin’s, tweeted. “Wish everyone could have been around such a selfless and generouspersonlikeyou. You were trulyoneof a kind. Love you buddy, Rest in power.”
Also, Moeller principal and basketball coach Carl Kremer told the Cincinnati Enquirer that Currinwas an incredible young man who was a role model and a gift.
