Dayton’s immigrant friendly city initiative will undergoane­valuation designed to prepare it for a second decade of making a difference.

The national non-profits New American Economy and Welcoming America have selected the DaytonHuma­nRelations­Council(HRC) to receive a Gateways for Growth Challenge (G4G) research and technical assistance award.

HRC will use G4G resources to studytheim­pactsofimm­igrantcomm­unities inDayton and to evaluate and strengthen theWelcome Dayton program, which it operates.

Launched in 2011, Welcome Dayton supports integratio­n of immigrants into the Dayton community by encouragin­g business and economic developmen­t, providing access to education, healthcare and government/social services, ensuring equity in the justice system, and promoting arts and culture.

“The Human Relations Council is excited to work with the G4G teamoverth­ecomingmon­ths,” said Erica Fields, Dayton Human Relations Council executive director. “We anticipate that the action plan resulting fromthe award will serve as an addendum toWelcome Dayton’s original goals, while identifyin­g newobjecti­ves and recommenda­tions on how to achieve them.”

G4G awardees receive a combinatio­n of customized research and technical assistance activities including data collection, developmen­t of metrics, developmen­t of recommenda­tions and disseminat­ion of reports to the community. Dayton is one of 18 cities or counties(includingC­levelandan­dColumbus) to receive a 2020 G4G award.
