The honor of serving the community in 2020

Eventhrough this year of lockdowns and socially distancing, Realtors came through with over 1,000 toys andmore than $14,000 for Toys for Tots.

Happy holidays. It is hard to believe 2020 is almost over and this is my final article as president of Dayton Realtors. This year has flown by! It has been a very rewarding experience. Since this is my final “President’s Column,” I want to say goodbye to all of you who have taken your time to read my articles. I have heard positive comments from many of you on how much you have enjoyed and learned from the information shared here.

As is customary in real estate associations, a presidential term lasts only one year. So beginning in January, Sharon Geier will be the 2021 Dayton Realtors president and will assume the privilege of writing about the importance of home ownership and the value of using a Realtor in today’s economy. I’m sure you will find Sharon’s columns to be both interesting and informative.

It has been my privilege to serve as president of an organization as fine as Dayton Realtors. To me, the value of being a Realtor and helping the public to achieve the American Dream of Home Ownership is priceless. You can’t stay in this industry very long without having a real passion for helping homeowners, and I’m grateful for every day I’m able to do it.

Our organization is about more than Realtors, though. It’s about educating consumers and giving back to the Dayton area. We do this in a number of ways. The biggest challenge the Miami Valley – and the nation – tackled this year was the worldwide pandemic. Realtors did their part, speaking out to make sure that the real estate industry was seen as an “essential service” in order to help consumers start, continue or complete their real estate transaction without delay. We did this carefully, and greatly restructured how we conduct home showings to provide a safe environment for all our clients.

We also continued our tradition of giving back to the community by supporting a number of local causes. Through the Dayton Realtors Foundation, we contributed funds to the Hall Hunger Initiative, an organization dedicated to stamping out hunger. We also donated thousands of dollars’ worth of gift cards to the Artemis Center to support the needs of victims of domestic violence.

Even through this year of lockdowns and socially distancing, Realtors came through with over 1,000 toys and more than $14,000 for Toys for Tots. We also supported Crayons to Classrooms with a donation drive that saw boxes upon boxes of school supplies dropped off at their doorstep.

Just days before the first lockdown inMarch we raised more than $20,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami Valley. It’s all in an effort to grow the community and make Dayton the best place in the world to live!

I will now resumemy place among the other 3,000-plus members of Dayton Realtors that are here to serve your real estate needs. My commitment to the real estate community and the Dayton community at large, however, will remain as strong as ever.
