Road repair project

Springboro City Council on Thursday approved a resolution to contract with J.K. Meurer Corp. for the 2021 joint repair project.

The project will consist of repairing about 6,500 linear feet of transverse cracks in the streets of the McCray Farms/Woodland Greens and Royal Springs/Royal Tamarack subdivisions, South Tech Business Park and North Pioneer Boulevard.

In his report, City Engineer Chad Dixon said the funds for the project will come from the Street Capital Improvement Fund. He said the city received two bids that ranged from $228,800 to $239,525 that were received Feb. 16, with J.K. Meurer Corp. having the lowest and best bid. The bid was below the engineer’s estimate of $245,000.

Streets to be repaired include: Belvoir Court, Brookfield Court, Callaway, Country Club Meadows, Fairfield Court, McCray Boulevard, North Ridge, Oak Hill, Southfield Court, Tory Pines, Turnberry Court, Tanglewood Drive, Forsgate Court, Tuckaway Court, Camden Park Court, King George Court, Queen Anne Court, Royal Springs Drive, St. James Place, Wellington Way, Westminster Way, Foilage Lane Royal, North Pioneer Boulevard, Industry Lane, South Tech Boulevard.

Springboro City Council Thursday adopted a resolution for the city to apply for Recreational Trails Grant administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

City officials said the grant would be used for the design and construction of a 10-foot wide multi-use trail on the south side of Clearcreek Park. The trail will extend an existing trail to connect to trails under development by the city to the east, connecting to Hazel Woods Park, and west, connecting to E. Milo Beck Park.

The project fulfills the recommendations in the 2020 Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan.

Officials said the trail design will be fully accessible. No property or easement acquisition is required for this project. If the project is funded by the state, the project will help develop a continuous off-road trail from E. Milo Beck Park to Franklin’s Lion Club Park via the proposed Clear Creek Connector Trail by 2023, which is being constructed by the city of Franklin.

It would also enable cyclists to access the Great Miami River Recreational Trail as well as attracting cyclists using that trail to explore Springboro, officials said.
