Family shelter moves Sculptures on Square
The Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County has moved to its new home on Crescent Drive in Troy. The new location has nearly twice the number of beds as the old shelter on East Franklin Street in downtown Troy.
The nonprofit shelter has raised $2.1 million out of a $2.3 million goal for the project, whose final cost will be around $2.8 million. Fundraising continues with hopes of meeting the $2.3 million goal, said Barb Holman, the shelter’s executive director. The new shelter has separate 20-bed wings for female victims of domestic violence and children, along with homeless women and children.

The Sculptures on the Square project will return to downtown Troy this summer, this time featuring sculptures to the theme of “Taking Flight.”
This year’s presentation will feature 20 artists from across the country and their sculptures. The project is coordinated through Troy Main Street, the downtown advocacy organization.
Past sculptures events have included the life-size works of Seward Johnson as well as a 31-foot sculpture of Abraham Lincoln by Johnson; local artists showing their talents on WACO bi-plane replicas; and door sculptures, also by local artist and organizations.
More information on the program will be released soon, said Main Street’s Andrea Keller.
Troy Main Street said the event is possible thanks to a grant from The Troy Foundation as well as sponsors. Sponsorships still are being accepted. For more information, contact Keller at andrea@ troymainstreet.org.
