Plans to resume CENTERVILLE — free Stubbs Park Amphitheater concerts are in motion as state restrictions on COVID-19 ease and vaccines become more accessible.

The city is working to begin a 13-week season June 6 with plans this year to include beer sales for the first time, Centerville Communications Director Kate Bostdorff said.

A schedule has been released, but many details will be based on future state and local public health coronavirus guidelines, Bostdorff said.

The city is “looking forward to the return of summer concerts. We are in the process of getting our agenda in place,” Centerville City Manager Wayne Davis said.

“And we believe it’s going to be well received and a great return for the community,” he added.

Centerville officials had planned to begin beer sales last season, but the coronavirus pandemic caused its cancellation days before the 2020 start date.

Those sales will be in partnership with the Centerville High School baseball team and the Centerville Jazz Band, Bostdorff said.

Ohio this week announced it

is expanding its coronavirus vaccine eligibility, with residents ages 40 and older — as well as those with certain medical conditions — able to get shots starting Friday. All Ohioans ages 16 and older will be eligible starting March 29, officials said.

Earlier this month Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced new guidelines for outdoor entertainment venues, limiting them to 30% fixed, seated capacity.

The Stubbs amphitheater does not have fixed seating.

Kettering officials said last week they are targeting a July 1 reopening for the Fraze Pavilion, the cityowned 4,300-seat outdoor venue. Recruiting efforts to fill seasonal Fraze jobs are underway.

Kettering has spent several months lining up possible performers and soon will ask its city council to allow for the Fraze opening based on updated state and local guidelines, officials said.

Public Health – Dayton Montgomery County said it is asking all venues to ensure:

■ All staff and patrons wear face masks correctly at all times, unless they are actively eating or drinking.

■ Anyone drinking beverages or consuming food remain seated.

■ Maintain proper social distancing between seated parties.

■ Maintain proper social distancing at the entrance and concession lines.

■ Restrooms be cleaned more frequently and soap, water and disposable towels be maintained at all times.

■ Have a flexible plan in case of event cancellation.
