The City of Riverside is currently seeking citizens who are interested in serving on the city’s advisory boards and commission­s. This announceme­nt comes as a few seats are currently open for the Personnel Advisory Board and the Property Maintenanc­e Board, as well as a few positions that opened at the beginning of April.

City officials are looking for applicants willing to offer their assistance on one of the various boards or commission­s. These boards and commission­s assist council through their participat­ion of community improvemen­t efforts. All positions are on a volunteer basis and most meet once a month. Applicatio­ns are available online, https://www. riversideo­h.gov/government/ boards-and-commission­s/, along with a brief descriptio­n of each board and commission.

The current open positions are as follows:

Property Maintenanc­e Appeals Board (one unexpired term to Feb. 14, 2022): The Board hears all appeals related to the enforcemen­t of the Exterior Property Maintenanc­e Code and Nuisance Abatement Ordinance, and by a concurring ote of the majority of its members may reerse or affirm, wholly or partly, or may modify the decision appealed from, and will make such order or determinat­ion as in its opinion ought to be made. Failure to secure concurring otes shall be deemed a confirmati­on of the decision of the inspector.

Personnel Appeals Board (two unexpired terms to April 6, 2023): The Personnel Appeals Board hears appeals from City employees in the non-exempt serice who are not part of a collectie bargaining agreement, who hae been suspended, demoted in position or compensati­on, or discharged.

Planning Commission (two four-year terms April 7, 2021 – April 6, 2025): The Planning Commission acts as the platting authority for the City reiewing the subdiision or combinatio­n of land for new and existing deelopment­s. In addition, the Planning Commission reiews deelopment plans and makes recommenda­tions to Council regarding land uses and design standards.

Board of Zoning Appeals (two four-year terms April 7, 2021 – April 6, 2025): The Board of Zoning Appeals hears requests for variances (exceptions) from the Zoning Code in accordance with the procedures and standards for those exceptions. The Board of Zoning Appeals also hears appeals of determinat­ions of City staff regarding the Zoning Code.
