Parks and recreation team brings fresh ideas to life
The city of Huber Heights Parks System consists of more than a dozen park areas, totaling over 150 acres of land. The parks offer playgrounds, shelters, ballfields, courts, picnic areas and trails.
An extensive list of the city parks and their amenities can be found at https://www. hhoh.org/290/Parks-Recreation. The city also has a very strong partnership with the YMCA at The Heights, which serves as the Recreation Department, handles all the park shelter and park field reservations, and manages the Kroger Aquatic Center.
Parks Manager Josh King has been with the city of Huber Heights for 12 years and started as the Parks Manager in April 2019. King has worked closely with the Parks and Recreation Board to bring new and fresh ideas to life, such as the free Summer Music Concert Series as well as being instrumental in the start-up of the Farmers Market at The Heights. To say he has some other hidden surprises is an understatement, but something he is currently excited about is revitalizing the Huber Heights Community Center located on Powell Road and the potential installation of hiking and mountain bike trails at Dial Park.
The city of Huber Heights and the Parks and Recreation Board will be hosting an Earth Day park Cleanup on Saturday, April 24. With volunteers from the community, city staff, and various board members, time will be spent at the city parks cleaning up trash, removing debris, and planting flowers around park signs.
In partnership with Montgomery County’s Keep Montgomery County Beautiful initiative, there will be access to their equipment trailer that will have gloves, trash bags, pickers and various tools for volunteers to use.
Volunteers will also be at The Huber Heights Community Center clearing out garden beds in preparation for the new raised gardens to be installed. At Thomas A. Cloud Memorial Park, Cottonwood Park and Community Park, volunteers will help by picking up trash and planting flowers.
If anyone is interested in volunteering for the April 24 event, contact Josh King at 937-237-5836 or by email at jking@hhoh.org.
