Partly sunny skies early today will give way to the threat of severe weather this afternoon and tonight that includes the potential for a tornado, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The NWS said today could hit a high of 90 degrees, and the forecast brings an enhanced risk of strong to severe storms and heavy rainfall in most of the region.

“The threat for severe storms and flash flooding is increasing for Friday afternoon/evening,” the NWS tweeted.

The storms bring an enhanced risk of damaging winds and some risk for large hail and potentially a tornado, the NWS said.

“With torrential rain in some storms, flash flooding may also occur,” according to the NWS.

Ohio has not had a confirmed tornado this year, the longest such time on record without one in the state to start a calendar year, according to NWS records.

The state had 82 confirmed tornadoes in 2019 and 2020.

The overnight low into Saturday will drop only to about 70 degrees. The chance of showers and thunderstorms remains overnight and into Saturday.

“A few strong to severe storms will be possible again Saturday afternoon and evening. Damaging wind would be the primary threat on Saturday,” the NWS predicted.

Otherwise, Saturday will have partly sunny skies with a high near 85 degrees.

Saturday night into Sunday, the temperature will drop to about 67 degrees, and a chance of showers and thunderstorms remains in the forecast.

For potential Father’s Day cookouts on Sunday, partly sunny skies are expected with a high near 87 degrees.

Monday is expected to be in the mid 80s once again, with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms likely.

Temperatures are expected to fall back on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs reaching only into the low to mid 70s.
