CENTERVILLE/ WASHINGTON TWP. Writing contest

-

Some teen will be $3,000 richer this fall for writing about how they manage to thrive and thrive through their teen years with their goals intact, modeling Dottie Yeck’s formula: Being Good + Doing Good = Having Fun + Being Happy.

The 16th Annual Dottie Yeck Good Life Award Writing Contest opens for online entries from Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 8 a.m. until Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. Students in grades 7-9 who live or attend school in Montgomery County are eligible to enter. The endowment will award $3,000 to the winner, $750 to second place, $300 to third place, and $150 to the fourth place finisher. A cash award will also be given to the winner’s classroom, and Honorable Mentions will receive a certificate of merit. The winners and honorable mentions will have their essays printed on the library’s website.

The writing contest is entirely funded by an endowment from the family of former library trustee Dorothy R. Yeck. She believed one is never too young to have a positive impact on others. The writing prompt and promotional materials have been sent to language arts teachers and may be found at wclibrary.info/gla. Winners will be announced in mid-November and will be honored at the Good Life Celebration at Woodbourne Library (6060 Far Hills Ave.) on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The program will feature author and nationally known teen leadership expert Fran Kick.

The CDC recommends wearing a facemask, regardless of vaccination status, in public indoor settings. Please do not participate if you feel ill or are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
