Jackets’ Domi quarantined following COVID test result

Max Domi can’t DENVER – catch a break.

After returning early from offseason shoulder surgery and then fracturing a rib in the second game, the Blue Jackets forward is now in a New York hotel room while being quarantined under the NHL’s COVID-19 protocols for this season.

According to the team, Domi tested positive for the illness Sunday.

The result wasn’t available until after the Blue Jackets’ 4-3 overtime win over the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center, but was discovered before Domi got on the team’s charter flight to Denver.

The news was announced Monday and the team also announced forward Kevin Stenlund was recalled from the Cleveland Monsters to fill Domi’s roster spot. Domi, who is said to be feeling fine, is restricted to his hotel room for a 10-day span that officially began Sunday.

According to the league’s COVID-19 protocols, teams are required to hold one extra hotel room wherever they stay with a checkout date later than the team is scheduled to depart. That means Domi is likely at the hotel where the Blue Jackets stayed for games against the New York Rangers and Devils this past weekend, commuting from Newark, New Jersey, back to New York within the league’s allowable means within its guideline.

He put two shots on goal and skated 13:55 against the Devils on Sunday, after being moved to left wing on a forward line that included Jack Roslovic at center and Oliver Bjorkstrand at right wing.

Domi will miss at least the next two games, which are both against the Colorado Avalanche in a home-andhome set that starts today in Denver and ended Saturday at Nationwide Arena.

Yegor Chinakhov filled Domi’s spot during his absence for the fractured rib and coach Brad Larsen said last week the Russian rookie remains the team’s “next man up.”
