- By Eric Schwartzberg Staff Writer

Springboro High School staffers and students are mourning the death of a teacher who spent the majority of her decades-long career with the district.

School district officials said vocal music director Beth Jamison died Monday. She was 65.

The school district did not specify the cause of her death.

Jamison, who joined the district in 1989, was the high school’s choir director and musical director. Before coming to Springboro, she was employed by the Hamilton City School District in Butler County.

“Ms. Jamison, through her love of music, was a student-centered, kid-first educator,” SHS Principal Kyle Martin said in a release. “She was top notch and will truly be missed.”

District officials said her death is “a tragic loss” for both Springboro schools and the Springboro community.

Students were made aware of the news Monday during school. A team of grief counselors is was made available throughout the school day to provide emotional support for those in need.

“We understand this can be a difficult time for the families whose lives have been touched by Ms. Jamison, a wonderful teacher loved by all her students,” Superintendent Larry Hook said in the release. “Ms. Jamison’s commitment to our students and love for music has impacted us all.”

District officials said they encourage parents to talk with their children.

“How we, as adults, manage ourselves serves as an important model for helping kids handle tragedies like this,” said Scott Marshall, the district’s communications coordinator. “It is important that they know they are loved and supported as they talk about their feelings.”

Anyone who has special counseling concerns or wants added support for their child may call the high school at (937) 748-3950.
