Holiday blood donation

- STAFF REPORT

Community Blood Center is asking donors to unwrap their Christmas spirit and help deliver a strong blood supply this holiday season by giving the gift of life at the “12 Days of Christmas” Blood Drive at the Dayton CBC Donation Center, 349 S. Main St.

Everyone who registers to donate through Dec. 11 at the Dayton CBC can choose a surprise gift from under the CBC Christmas tree. The minimum value is a $5 Chick-fil-A gift card. You might win a YETI Rambler Tumbler or YETI Hopper Flip cooler. All registered donors also get the “Hometown Hero” fleece blanket.

Appointments are encouraged and walk-ins are accepted as space allows. Schedule online at www.DonorTime.com or call 937-461-3220.

Keeping blood type O in full supply remains a challenge. CBC is counting on “Hometown Heroes” to prevent an emergency shortage.

CBC will again count its blessings this holiday season by counting 12 “Hometown Heroes” on each day of the 12 Days of Christmas Blood Drive.” It’s an opportunity to single out and celebrate 12 blood drive sponsors for their dedication this past year of the pandemic.

All CBC partners helped avert the crisis of a blood shortage by sponsoring blood drives during the public health crisis of COVID19. There are many heroes, and these 12 Hometown Heroes will humbly represent them all.

The holiday season is an important time to donate. Many businesses and organizations are not hosting blood drives due to continued COVID-19 related restrictions and people are often distracted from donating due to holiday activities and travel.

The season of giving is a good time to give back. CBC asks community members to consider becoming a blood donor, donating more often, becoming a platelet or plasma donor, or sponsoring a blood drive. Call 937-4613220 to learn how you can help.
