Clayton encourages residents to make connections

- By Mike Stevens

Spring 2023 is just around the corner. As the milder temperatures become more consistent, you will see more outdoor activities among our residents, our schools, our neighbors, and our city. Increased activity and interaction offer many opportunities for every one of us to add to our quality of life here in Clayton and beyond. I encourage everyone to engage with your community and enjoy the people, amenities, and possibilities Clayton has to offer.

The city of Clayton actively works to provide residents, business partners and our neighbors an environment designed to enhance our quality of life. Our roadmap, a living document called Plan Clayton, is utilized to encourage smart growth in our business corridors, attract diverse housing options, and maintain and improve our city’s infrastructure, while effectively managing sprawl and traffic issues that are common in many growing cities.

Meadowbrook at Clayton, our city-owned golf course and event facility, is a popular regional destination. Golfers enjoy this beautiful and challenging course. League play, individual play, and outings are all popular activities. 2023 will introduce three new pickleball courts at Meadowbrook! The event facility can be booked for events like weddings, reunions, and graduations. Other community events held at Meadowbrook include our Labor Day fireworks, the annual Easter Egg

Hunt, and Breakfast with Santa. This excellent community asset is a rare commodity among cities our size.

The city of Clayton offers three city-owned parks: Clayton Park at Hardscrabble, Northview Park, and Westbrook Park. Amenities are varied and include disc golf and baseball/softball. Enhancements underway include walking paths, restrooms, and an all-inclusive playground. Our parks will continue to be a focus for improvement.

Clayton maintains streets and curbs on a scheduled basis. The city has resurfaced 187 streets since 2016. Improvements have been made to three major intersections on state route 49, making them more efficient and safer.

Quality of life is important to the city of Clayton. Our fire department collaborates with our neighboring cities to reduce costs and improve response times. Our police department consists of professional, fulltime officers that have worked hard to maintain the ‘Safest City in Montgomery County’ rating since 2015. Our finance department routinely receives highest honors from the State of Ohio and ensures our tax dollars and budget are effectively managed. Our local public school system, Northmont, affords an excellent education to our young students.

Our residents will always be our focus. We work hard every day to ensure a safe environment, responsible financial management, and popular amenities. Look for opportunities to meet your neighbors, interact with city officials and staff, and enjoy everything Clayton has to offer. I’ll see you soon!
