School career-tech program expands opportunities
Recently, Wayne High School students completed a manufacturing bootcamp through a partnership with Sinclair College’s advanced manufacturing department. The engineering students received a crash course in manufacturing, processes and opportunities in the field. The lab consisted of three two-hour sessions after school on the Wayne High School campus and culminated with a full-day experience at Sinclair’s Eaker Street manufacturing facility.
Career/Workforce and CTE Supervisor Sean Kiriakis, said “I cannot thank Sinclair enough for working within our schedule and opening our students’ eyes to a wide range of skill sets, careers, and pathways.”
Here’s what Wayne High Schools students had to say about the experience:
“My favorite part was being able to come to the building and work with the machines. It’s definitely a 10/10 experience, and I would love to do it again.” - Malachi Robinson
“I enjoyed the camp. I was able to learn communication skills and how to build products with team members.” Ariana Kinney
“Some people want it to happen, and some people wish it would happen. This manufacturing bootcamp made it happen!” - Duy Vo
Wayne High School offers a robust list of nine career tech programs. A new onsite lab facility, exclusively funded by federal ESSER money, is set to be completed in August 2023 and will provide programs in welding, HVAC, and construction trades.
Not only are Wayne students exposed to career choices and opportunities, Huber Heights City Schools elementary and junior high students also gain experiences through guest speakers, career personality assessments, job site field trips and service projects. The purpose of these experiences is for students to better understand themselves when determining coursework and finding a path as they approach high school.
