Valley View schools: ‘This has been an amazing year’

- Joe Scholler Valley View Superintendent

I cannot believe that there are less than three months left in the 2022-23 school year. It has been an amazing year, full of stories of student success and team accomplishments. During the last two months, our school district has had some exciting news. I am honored to share just a few of the stories and events that have happened in our school district and community.

Construction has begun with our new K-12 building. Contractors are on site digging and pouring the foundations and footers for our new building. We should start to see the building rise vertically up out of the ground sometime this month. We have been able to share aerial views with the Valley View community as the progress occurs.

On Feb. 17, motivational speaker Rick Metzger spoke to the Valley View High School students. As a former world weightlifting champion, marathon runner, and former Ohio FFA member, Rick shared the importance of respect, overcoming adversity, making choices, and the rewards/consequences of those choices that you make. The students were actively engaged throughout the entire presentation and the impact was very positive.

As a school district, we know that the students’ future after high school is continuously changing, and the school district must adapt to continue to provide students with the tools and skills necessary in order to fulfill our mission. Valley View will be updating the current strategic plan to reflect the students’ needs as the school district plans to come together under one roof in our new building.

We will be gathering input from our entire community in terms of developing a new school brand. We have developed a survey that is available for all members of our community. All who complete the survey will provide input on the following questions:

■ In a sentence, what would you say it means to be a Spartan at Valley View schools?

■ What are the attributes of a Spartan that you think everyone who is part of your school should embody?

■ If you were to use one word that best describes the culture that exists today at Valley View schools, what word would you choose?

■ If you were to choose one word that you WISH to describe the culture at Valley

View schools, what would it be?

■ What is the one thing that separates you from surrounding schools?

■ What is one thing that makes you most proud to be associated with Valley View schools?

The answers will allow us to identify what it means to be a Spartan!

As superintendent, I am honored to serve the entire community of Valley View Local Schools. The final three months of this school year will be filled with more student success and accomplishment. Go Spartans!
