XENIA — Seeing the devastation caused by drug and alcohol addiction in our local communities — one might wonder what they could possibly do to help. Make no mistake about it: With people dying every day in record numbers, this horrible epidemic is extracting a heavy toll; it affects nearly every level and facet of our modern society.
And while feeling helpless is completely natural, all is not lost. Community leaders are often amazed to see the transformation underway here at the former Greene County Career Center — where lives are being restored every day.
In fact, with more than a hundred employees at various stages of their recovery, few companies in our community are more involved in charitable work and restoring broken lives than Five Star Home Services, which is one of the main backers of Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative.
None of this would be possible, nevertheless, without the support of our amazing customers and the amazing people in our communities. Because of this, as we head into this holiday season, we just wanted to extend a heartfelt “Thank You!”

How does your support of Five Star Home Services benefit our local communities?
“It’s simple really. While the majority of companies these days move their profits directly to their owners or stockholders, Five Star
Home Services is a profiton-purpose company,” said Christian Rattin, president of Five Star. “This means we send a portion of our profits to amazing causes in our communities. Although our goal is to provide optimal home comfort, we are also in the business of rebuilding broken lives and restoring hope.”
Some of the amazing organizations Five Star supports and partners with include Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative. For years, the company has been heavily involved in organizations that support the recovery community and provide housing to people in recovery.
“We also support ministries that help the victims of sex trafficking,” Rattin said. “We help organizations that train people into the skilled trades and offer second chances to people working to rebuild their lives. In short, we funnel a portion of our profits into these amazing causes that are so near and dear to our hearts.”
Because of this, customers supporting Five Star Home Services can rest assured their money is going towards a good cause. As part of Five Star’s pledge to “Profit on Purpose” the company donates 5% of their top line revenue annually to support worthy causes in the communities that they operate.

A brief history of Five Star Home Services
Founded as a familyowned and operated business
in Pickerington, Ohio, in 1972, Five Star Home Services is among the state’s leading second chance employers today.
“When our father started this, he had one goal,” said Kip Morris, CEO of Five Star. “He wanted to provide customers with the best HVAC solutions at the most affordable prices. Fast forward half a century later, and today our company is now a second-generation familyowned business with the same goal of providing toptier comfort solutions and other home services at the most competitive prices.”
When Morris and his brother, Brett, took over the family business many years ago, they said it was extremely important to them that they remain the leading experts when it came to HVAC, plumbing and electrical work.
“Our technicians, electricians, plumbers and installers go through rigorous training yearround to stay up to date on new technologies and best practices,” Morris said. “We wanted to take what our parents started from being a
small ‘mom and pop shop’ to a much larger company. We also wanted to leverage more to our customers and build upon our family tradition of excellence.”
