Man shot, killed on Brooklyn Avenue identified
A man who was shot and killed in a shooting last week that also seriously injured a woman was identified Tuesday as 35-year-old Dominique Battle by Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.
Charged in the shooting is Shawn Adrian Jackson Sr., 48, of Harrison Twp. He was arraigned Monday in Dayton Municipal Court for two counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault and one count of having a weapon while under disability.
He is held on $1 million bail in the Montgomery County Jail.
Dayton police responded around 7:45 p.m. Dec. 6 to the 700 block of Brooklyn Avenue. Officers found a man shot in the head, later identified as Battle, and a woman who had been shot multiple times. Battle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
The woman was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with critical injuries, Dayton police Lt. Steven Bauer said last week.
Investigators found video reportedly showing Jackson walking in and out of the house.
“Phone records confirm that the defendant called the victim multiple times before he arrived and walked in,” an affidavit read.
“The defendant was arrested after the living victim picked him out as the shooter.”
Jackson denied being at the house the night of the shooting, according to court records. two counts of rape, according to Preble County Common Pleas Court records. All other charges — six additional counts of rape, four counts of sexual battery, eight counts of gross sexual imposition and one count of importuning — were dismissed.
He previously was scheduled to go to trial on Monday. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 20.
As part of Bechtol’s plea agreement, the prosecution agreed to a recommended sentence of 11 to 16½ years in prison, according to court documents.
The reported abuse occurred over multiple incidents from March 27, 2017, to March 27, 2018, according to Eaton Municipal Court records.
One of the girls said Bechtol threatened her and pointed a gun at her head, according to an affidavit. The other girl reported Bechtol threatened to hurt her if she reported him.
Bechtol and the girls are known to each other.
