City recruits volunteers with revamped program
Volunteers are critical to the success of our community. Each year in Centerville, more than 100 volunteers give their time, talent and services to our city, donating around 10,000 hours. This saves the city hundreds of thousands of dollars and helps us achieve our mission of delivering exceptional services through thoughtful governance to ensure progress and stability.
This year, we are making the first major changes to our municipal volunteer program in decades with the introduction of Volunteer Centerville, a revamped program aimed at recruiting and retaining volunteers who wish to support the City’s mission, vision and values.
In January of this year, Volunteer Centerville launched an online application for prospective volunteers to apply and agree to a background check. You do not need to be a city resident as those living outside of the city are welcome to volunteer. In less than two months. the city has already recruited nearly two dozen prospective new volunteers. Interested?
You can see the application and learn more at centervilleohio. gov/volunteer.
The City’s volunteer program has been successful for decades in providing volunteer services to The Golf Club at Yankee Trace, Centerville Police Department and Boards and Commissions. Volunteer Centerville will add an additional area of focus with city events. More than 90,000 guests attended the city events in 2023, including the Summer Concert Series, Party in the Park, Merchant Market, Fall Fest and others.
Volunteers are proud of their service and it is important to City Council and staff to show our appreciation for the work volunteers do. All volunteers will receive a Volunteer Centerville polo, food vouchers for City events worked and an invitation to the annual Volunteer Salute banquet. Volunteers assigned to The Golf Club at Yankee Trace also receive golf incentives including unlimited standby golf, golf shop discounts, quarterly pro sessions and more.
Volunteer Centerville will also introduce volunteers to leadership development opportunities, including the City’s Community Leadership Forum and quarterly Lunch and Learn Sessions.
Please consider volunteering or referring someone you know who might be a great fit. These contributions make a direct positive impact on people in our community, create new friendships and improve the quality of life for us all in our community. We would love to see you as a part of Volunteer Centerville.
